On Thursday 3rd Drogheda got its first dedicated Cystic Fibrosis paediatric unit thanks to the late Paddy Kierans with his wife Julie, also friends & supporters. They raised €570,000 to make this dream possible.

This centre is high tech unit and has air purification system in place.

Cystic fibrosis CF is an inherited chronic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system.

The unit is situated at, no 52 Windmill Road, Drogheda beside The Lourdes hospital.

“My lung function has greatly improved and I no longer have shortness of breath doing everyday activities. It has reduced my hospital admissions and I am generally feeling a lot healthier. People have commented on how well I look. I have also stopped taking my hay fever tablets as I no longer need them. Brilliant! Thank you!”

 Sinusitis blogpost nasal drip

Do you experience sinusitis? Are you prone to chest infections, colds or flu? If the answer is yes then you understand how draining it can be when you have constant headaches and you’re breathing pattern is disturbed by excess mucus and a stuffy nose. The colour of your mucus may give you an idea about how serious the condition may be. A green coloured substance may indicate a bacterial infection, yellow mucus may be a sign of a sinus infection, clear and watery is considered normal and a white colour can be the overuse of dairy products which encourages a build-up of mucus. A pink coloured mucus with other symptoms including loss of appetitie, fatigue, shortness of breath may indicate something more serious and you should seek medical attention.

Swallowing the mucus won’t do you harm, but you are reintroducing it to your system and it is best to spit it out instead. If you find that the mucus travels from your nose and drips into the back of your throat this is known as a nasal drip. the mucus dripping down the back of the throat is irritating and may cause a cough or make you feel hoarse. At salt of the earth we recommend using a sinus rinse in conjunction with salt therapy for both post nasal drip and sinusitis. Rinsing out your sinuses washes out the bacteria that can cause infection. Only use the sinus rinse when you need it as you may wash away protective substances if you use it too often.By using the sinus rinse before you come to salt of the earth you can clear the larger blockages and allow the salt to works its way through the sinuses and target the smaller blockages. Salt therapy will help to breakdown congestion and the mucus or phlegm can be expelled through the nose and mouth. Once this congestion gets broken down, the salt acts as anti-inflammatory, relieving headaches around the temples and tension around the cheekbones and jawline.

At salt of the earth we are now treating our clients better... of course we are talking about our salt therapy treatment and our new machine updates. We have completed some upgrades on our Breeze Tronic Pro machines for the salt rooms. People have been commenting to say they can now taste the salt and see it in the air. Although the concentration levels in the rooms have not changed, the upgrades have allowed the salt particles to be grinded into much smaller particles creating a misty appearance in the rooms. The smaller the particles are, the easier it is for them to reach further into the lungs and the better the overall treatment will be for you.

Come down and try salt therapy for only €10 for the initial treatment. We also have some great specials on at the moment, get one month unlimited treatments for €180.

You can also become a member for only €100 and pay only €15 per treatment for a whole year. Like buying a new mobile phone you will just have to top up by €15 each time you visit. It’s that simple!

It has been released that there will soon be a shortage of the drug Augmentin, which is a common antibiotic that treats conditions such as bronchitis, chest infections, pneumonia, sinusitis and ear infections. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increase in demand. The HSE are working on an alternative supply or treatment for those in need of Augmentin.

If you find yourself taking Antibiotics for respiratory problems there is an natural drug-free alternative available here in Drogheda.

Salt therapy can compliment the current treatment regime you may be undertaking. It treats many ailments including bronchitis, asthma, COPD, tonsillitis, coughs, sinusitis and more.

Many of our clients have noticed an improved quality of life after a course of treatments. Many continue to take medication for their condition and others have told us there is a reduced need for it.

At salt of the earth we always recommend you follow your doctors orders first. We do not recommend you stop taking medication, but if you want to help clear up your condition salt therapy is a natural, drug free and effective way to speed up this process.

The shortage of Augmentin is expected to last until September of next year. If you want to try this complimentary therapy, the first session is only €10 so try the natural way, try salt therapy.

Seasons

Salt Therapy has its benefits not just in the wintertime as so many people associate the treatment with, but all year round! The Indian summer we are having this autumn has kept the pollen count quite high and although it's great to see the sun out and about those with Hayfever, Allergies and Rhinitis can suffer bouts of attacks because of it.

Have a look at how salt therapy can benefit you, whatever the season:

Spring - Ah spring the time of the year when the sun reappears after being dormant for the months previous. The cold dark and dreary days of the winter - gone, or so we would hope. When spring comes let's face it...it doesn't change too much. February and March can be cold months and you wouldn't dream of walking outside without the coat (either a warm wooly or raincoat) in hand. Salt Therapy can help open you airways helping with Asthma, Sinusitis, COPD and Bronchitis.

Summer - The sun may be hiding behind the clouds at the start of the summer or only popping out now and again, but this doesn't stop the pollen count from rising. In May light winds and the sun combined are bad news for Hayfever sufferers. Allergies and a general change in weather can play havoc with our sinuses especially for those who have Asthma, Sinusitis, Allergies or Rhinitis. The salt treatment has a hyposensitizing effect: the body becomes less sensitive to a substance producing an allergic reaction: it reduces IgE levels in the body. IgE is the antibody involved in allergic reactions.

Autumn - After the milder weather from the summer we start to pull out from storage, the knits and boots, wrapping up as the cold weather approaches. At this time of year children go back to school, the nights get darker and everyone wishes they were back enjoying any holidays they took over the summer months. You may be feeling run down and sluggish trying to get back into a routine. This is the perfect time to boost your immune system getting you ready for the winter ahead. If you experience Asthma, COPD, or feel the start of virus coming on, if you have a dry cough or are just not sleeping that well, Salt Therapy can help  with many of these symptoms.

Winter - This month obviously sees much wet and very cold weather, bringing with it the flu and viruses which can spread easily. Our salt rooms help to kill and fight bacteria. We are all busy this time of year getting ready for halloween and the build-up to the Christmas season so keep yourself healthy and well this year with a trip to salt of the earth.

Keep an eye out for our new leaflets being distributed in Drogheda and surrounding areas. Discounts are available with these leaflets. To book a course of treatments to get you ready for the winter contact us now on 0419846391 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Salt Lamps

Salt lamps present a wonderful fusion of individualist style and function. The warm glow that emanates from the salt is for many, a great source of therapy. The salt lamp, unique as a fingerprint and manufactured by hand would be a focal point in any therapy room or in the home.

The air around us carries ions, also known as electrical charges. These ions can be either positive or negative. Computers, TV’s, air conditioners, tobacco, smoke, etc. produce positively ionized air which is detrimental to our health contributing to illnesses such as arthritis and cancer. The gentle heat of salt crystal lamps generates negatively ionised air which is found in the mountains, at waterfalls, at the sea or after thunderstorms.Breathing air with negative ions has a beneficial effect on our health. Negative ions have aided the treatment of many illnesses including rheumatism, allergies, sleeplessness, migraines, high blood pressure, respiratory problems, physical and psychic disorders etc.

Tests on hyperactive children with concentration and sleeping disorders (ADHD symptoms) have shown that using crystal salt lamps drastically reduces their symptoms after only one week. When the lamps were removed, the symptoms returned. The colour of the salt crystal lamp also helps in the treatment of many conditions. The colour of the salt crystal lamp reinforces the rejuvenating effect on our health as colours themselves have a healing influence. Red stands for revitalization, orange for revival, yellow for positive thinking, white for powers of concentration.

salt of the earth have a range of salt lamps available. Just pop down to our clinic in Bryanstown Centre, Drogheda to purchase one.
